DIRECTOR OF EXTENSION

Keysha Thompkins (Decatur, Georgia) Her love for music began as a child singing in the church and elementary school choirs. Keysha's favorite part was the musicians. After following some older family members who played in the band, she too joined the band in 6th grade playing the clarinet. She played in high school as well and also learned how to play tenor saxophone. Keysha was an honor band student who participated in multiple state, county, and city district honor bands, and received multiple awards and scholarships to attend college playing her instruments. She attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA.

Keysha entered Morris Brown College in the fall of 1996 and joined the Marching Wolverines.

In the spring of 1997, Keysha was invited to join, and it was one of the best decisions she made. The music, bonding, and sisterhood became lifelong. Keysha has held the following positions as an undergraduate: Historian, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, and President. After graduating, she and some members chartered the Eta Lambda Alumni Chapter. She has held the following positions: Treasurer, Secretary, and President. She also became a Life Member while active as an alumni.

Her strong love for music never wavered as she pursued her dream to become a teacher. By degree, she is an elementary school teacher and has taught in elementary for the past 20 years. Durign those years, she has mostly taught in private and themed schools. Teaching in those settings, it was a need for music to be taught and someone to lead the annual music programs. Keysha was chosen and truly enjoyed continuing her other passions and leading so many music programs. Due to so many changes in the field of education, she has decided to try a new path and she now assists as a science teacher at an online high school.

Keysha is currently active in the Morris Brown Band Foundation and is chairing their annual Band Reunion. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she is co-chair on the Hospitality Committee for the local chapter. Keysha looks forward to becoming active again with Delta Omicron Fraternity.
