We held organizational meetings May 20, August 20, and September 26, 2006, and have nine members.  We also met on March 12, 2007, after which we enjoyed singing several songs from the D.O. Songbook.

We handed out programs at the Axtell Oratorio Society’s 50th annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah at the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney on April 1, 2007.  Marjorie Wendell, Club President, was honored as being a member of the society since its inception and was the original alto soloist in 1958.

For International Alumni Day on May 1, we met for a Dutch-treat luncheon at Pane Bello restaurant.

We performed in a joint musicale with the Delta Chi chapter on March 25, 2007

We assisted the Delta Chi chapter by donating baked goods for their bake sales in September, February, and April.  Several of our club members attended their initiation ceremony on April 15, 2007, and Janet Schneider played the ritual music for the ceremony.

Most of our members are active musicians in the church and in the community.  Carol Cope was awarded the Pioneer Award at the annual Nebraska Statehood Day banquet on March 3, 2007.  An article about that appeared in the Kearney Hub newspaper.

All in all it was a successful first year.  We are already planning to host a kick-off party for the collegiates on September 9, 2007, to assist them in their recruiting efforts.  Our main objective is to help the Delta Chi chapter, and we are doing so.

At the June 2006 meeting of the Zeta Mu Chapter, the members voted to become the Lincoln, NE, Delta Omicron Alumni Club.  We met 5 times in 2006-2007 and didn’t change our format for meetings.

The first meeting of our new era was the “Terrific Trio” concert of vocal and flute selections by Jack and Shirley Cole and Ruth Stephenson.  In October, we were graced by the talents of several youth winners of the Lincoln Music Teachers Association (LMTA) Composition Competition Winners, ages 5-17 plus adults.  Their teachers also played their first, second, and third place winning selections from this competition.  All three teachers are members of our DO Club:  Marcia Wiebers, Jo Riecker-Karl, Mary Keelan.  Several members were gone for the winter (snowbirds), so a few members gathered for lunch in February.  In April, we sang our way through the new DO Songbook to refresh our memories.  We closed the year with an annual potluck dinner and Installation of Officers.  We also honored long-time patronesses Margaret Morrow and Barbara Patronsky for years of faithful service to us.

This year the Club has given contributions to the Delta Omicron Foundation, Inc. toward the DO Carnegie Hall Chair Fund and to the LMTA Music Outreach Program for young musicians.  Most of our members are still very active in several local civic and church musical groups.
