Judith Eidson Receives Alumni Achievement Award |
|
The Alumni Achievement Award was presented to Judith Eidson at the Rose and Gray Banquet on the final evening of Conference 2006. This award is given in recognition of continuous service and support of Delta Omicron as an alumni member and is the most prestigious award given to an alumni member of the Fraternity. Judith was recognized for her dedication and efficient supervision of Delta Omicron’s Triennial Composition Competition. She has served continuously as chair of that national project since 1987. The task involves many hours of correspondence with composer applicants, judges, and composer associations and careful record-keeping to insure fair and accurate judging procedures for submitted compositions. She creates the composition flyer and disseminates it by mail and online to national composer organizations, schools of music, and interested individuals throughout the United States and the world. Because of her efforts, the Triennial Composition Competition has grown from a small national project to one of international scope.
Judith was chapter president of Sigma Chapter and attended the 1965 Triennial Conference. She has been an active member of Zeta Zeta Alumni Chapter in Denver, Colorado since 1967, serving as Chapter Vice President several times and coordinating music programs between Zeta Zeta and the Denver Sigma Alpha Iota Chapter. She served as Gamma Province President from 1967 through the 1980’s, helping to install two chapters during that time. The Board of Directors is pleased to recognize Judith’s outstanding service to the fraternity with this award. Judith received a certificate at conference, and a small diamond will be placed on her membership badge as is traditional with this award. Judith wears the badge of Edna de Vellin Best, a D.O. friend from Colorado, in her memory. |

Alumni Serve as Conference Accompanists |
|
Three alumni served ably as conference accompanists at the 2006 Triennial Conference. The Fraternity members extend our gratitude to them for the time and effort they gave to make our conference concerts possible. Carol Bibb Jamison retired from teaching from Middle Tennessee State University in 2005, but she still serves as Omicron Psi’s Chapter Adviser. She maintains a piano studio at home and is currently busy with family activities. Carol received her BM degree in Piano Performance from Carson-Newman College and her MM degree from the University of Memphis where she was a Suzuki Piano Teacher. She is active in the Middle Tennessee Music Teachers Association, and she is a national certified teacher of music through the Music Teachers National Association. She is also pianist at Calvary Baptist Church. She is married to dentist Benjamin Jamison, and they have two children, Benjamin who is 23 and Audrey who is 14. Carol is an avid tennis player and is playing in the Nashville Area League again after 25 years. Donna Levene was the accompanist for two alumni performers at the Alumni Concert, performing on Beethoven’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major, Opus 47 with Amy Harris and on the Berger Suite for Flute and Piano with Suzanne Barchers. Donna has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she was a member of Delta Eta. Recently retired from a career as a librarian in both elementary and high schools, Donna enjoys playing the piano as an accompanist for soloists and chamber groups. She is the author of two books for (continued on page 8) |
