Congratulations!!

On June 22, 2005, at the Culinary Institute of America’s Ristorante Caternia dei’Medici, Delta Omicron alumni member Lily Nehman and Epsilon Province President Desiree Baxter present a Citation of Recognition to Roy Ernst, Ph.D.  The Citation presented on behalf of the Board of Directors of Delta Omicron recognized Dr. Ernst’s “achievements as founder of the New Horizons Music Project at Eastman School of Music that led to the New Horizon Band Movement throughout America.”  As described by their website, “The New Horizon Music programs provide entry points to music making for adults, including those with no musical experience at all and also those who were active in school music programs but have been inactive for a long period.”  The movement is now international with bands in Canada and Ireland.  Dr. Ernst is Professor Emeritus of Eastman School of Music.

New National Honorary Member

Dr. Mitzi Danker Groom became Delta Omicron’s newest National Honorary Member on November 11, 2004.  The initiation ceremony was held at the Kentucky Museum on the campus of Western Kentucky University.  Omicron Omicron members conducted the ceremony under the supervision of Chapter Adviser Jayne Foster and Zeta West Province President Kari Carr, who presented a Certificate of Honor to Dr. Groom at the public reception that followed the initiation.  Dr. Groom is Chair of the Department of Music at Western Kentucky University.  She currently serves as the President of the American Choral Directors Association and is nationally known as a guest conductor and clinician and for publications in the field of choral music education.

New National Patrons

Delta Omicron proudly announces two new National Patrons.  Operatic tenor Carl Tanner was inducted on August 8, 2005, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the home of National Music Adviser Claudia Grayson.  At that time, Mr. Tanner was performing with the Santa Fe Opera’s production of Turandot,  Carl Tanner is in great demand, performing not only in the United States but also in Germany, Japan, and France as a soloist with symphonies and also as a tenor on the operatic stage.

 

Cellist and composer Dr. John White was inducted as a National Patron on December 11, 2005, in Denver, Colorado.  The induction was conducted by Board representatives Karen Harris, Gamma Province President, and Judith Eidson, with the assistance of Zeta Zeta Alumni Chapter members.  Dr. White, Fulbright University of Vienna Distinguished Chair in Humanities for 2003-2004, studied composition with Howard Hanson, Bernard Rogers, Nadia Boulanger, and Ross Lee Finney.  He has composed more than 60 published compositions, and several instrumental pieces are recorded under the Zalo/Provincia label.  His vocal and choral compositions are published by G. Schirmer, Lawson-Gould, and others.  Dr. White is also an active cellist, performing in the United States and occasionally in European countries.
