A Message from the President

Greetings, Delta Omicron Alumni!  Welcome to the third online edition of The Whistle.  We hope that DO alumni are beginning to access The Whistle online more and more.  It is our hope that it will be the location on the Delta Omicron website where alumni member news can be shared.  We hope that you like that we have included more alumni news, and we encourage you to share your musical and professional accomplishments with other DO alumni by sending information and pictures to Editor Lani Yearicks or Executive Secretary Julie Hensley for publication online in the next issue.

CD copies of The Whistle will be mailed to all alumni chapters and clubs after its publication online each year.  Chapters and clubs have permission to copy and distribute copies to their members.  In addition, any alumni-at-large member who wishes a hardcopy of the issue may contact the International President, and a copy will be mailed.

We encourage you to read the news about Triennial Conference 2006 that is scheduled for July 27-30, 2006, at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL.  We hope that many alumni members will attend.  It will be a fun time to renew old friendships, share fellowship with our collegiate members, enjoy great concerts by alumni and collegians, hear two composition premieres, and attend our Alumni and Collegiate Dinners and, of course, the Rose and Grey Banquet and the Lily-of-the-Valley Breakfast.  Registration information will appear online on the Delta Omicron website beginning in January and in the winter issue of The WHEEL.

As we prepare for our Centennial Celebration in 2009, the History Committee led by National Historian Ann Jones is busy compiling the Fraternity history.  This will be the first historical compilation for Delta Omicron since the Golden Anniversary issue of The WHEEL.  It will include photos and historical facts about the fraternity.  We will begin accepting orders for the history later this year.  Orders placed by the end of July 2006 will receive a reduced cost.  Please look in the winter issue of The WHEEL and on the DO website for order information.  Publication will be at the 2009 Triennial Conference.

Alumni member support is so important to Delta Omicron.  How can you help keep our Fraternity strong and functioning?  Send us information about potential new chapter sites in your local colleges and universities; help us reactivate your undergraduate chapter if it is inactive; volunteer to serve in a national office—we need Province Presidents, State Area Chairs, Chapter Advisers, and National Committee Chairs.  Contact Executive Secretary Julie Hensley or myself if you are interested.

Alumni financial support is also critical to the strength of Delta Omicron.  Be sure to update your address with the Executive Secretary each time you move.  That insures that you will continue to receive our publications and mailings and helps us eliminate return postal costs.  If you know of DOs in your area who are not receiving The WHEEL, tell them to contact the Executive Secretary.

Be sure to pay your annual dues to be eligible for The WHEEL and scholarships and grants from the Fraternity and the Foundation.  If you are not a Life Member, consider purchasing that for $300; part of that payment will assist with the Education Journal Fund.  If you are a Life Member, consider a donation to one of our Funds (Educational Journal, Conference, Endowment, Technology, and Executive Office Funds).  Purchase of Delta Omicron merchandise and jewelry through the Executive Office and at the Burr Patterson & Auld website (www.burrpatt.com) will also help the Fraternity financially.

Finally, we do encourage all alumni who are looking for assistance with educational opportunities to apply for Delta Omicron Summer Scholarships and Delta Omicron Foundation Educational Grants.  Information and application forms may be found on the Delta Omicron website.

Best wishes in Delta Omicron,

Dr. Jonny H. Ramsey

International President
