A Message from the President

Greetings to all Delta Omicron members!  We welcome you to this second online edition of The Whistle.  We hope that you enjoy reading about the achievements of fellow alumni and encourage you to share your accomplishments in the next edition by contacting Whistle Editor Lani Yearicks or Executive Secretary Julie Hensley.

Since our last issue, a new alumni chapter, Eta Mu, was established in Atlanta, Georgia, and a new alumni club was organized in Frostburg, Maryland.  In addition, Gamma Xi Chapter at Coastal Carolina University was reactivated in May 2004.  The Fraternity inducted French hornist Eric Ruske and composer/performer Hugh Livingston, Jr. as national patrons.  Citations were awarded to Delta Omicron alumna Virginia M. Howard and to Dallas residents Margot and William Winspear for their lifelong philanthropic support of music and the arts.  Past President Ann Jones received the Professional Fraternity Association’s Faculty Advisor Award of Excellence at the 2004 PFA Conference, and Epsilon Beta Chapter received PFA’s Outstanding Professional Program Award for their summer music camp for children project.

Plans for Triennial Conference 2006 are underway.  The conference will be held July 27-30, 2006, on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.  Information about the conference and a call for alumni performers will begin to appear in issues of The Wheel this year.  We hope that you will plan to attend the conference.

We encourage you to keep the Executive Office aware of any address changes that you may have.  We encourage you to become a life member if you have not done so already.  If you would like to organize an alumni gathering, alumni club, or chapter, please contact our Director of Alumni Extension, Eleanor Froehlich.  If you would like to serve as a state alumni chair, contact Director of Alumni-at-Large, Beth Jennings.

We also seek your help in reactivating former collegiate chapters in your area or for information about potential collegiate chapters at your local colleges or universities.  Your continued financial support of our Education Journal, Conference, and Endowment Funds will help strengthen the Fraternity.  We also encourage you to take advantage of Fraternity and Foundation summer scholarships and grants.  Application information about those is available on the Fraternity website at www.delta-omicron.org.

Best wishes in Delta Omicron,

Dr. Jonny H. Ramsey

International President
