Text Box: A Message from the President

Greetings to all Delta Omicron members!  We have exciting news to share with all alumni as we begin the new triennium.

The 2003 Triennial Conference was held at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.  The Alumni Concert featured outstanding performances by bassoonist Elizabeth Fetters, pianist Dr. Carol Ferri, flutist Michelle Barraclough, and soprano Dr. Sebronette Barnes.  Other concerts highlighted the collegians and the premieres of Arise and Dance, Sonata No. 1 for Clarinet and Piano by composer Dr. Dan Pinkston and IN MEMORIAM - Sacajawea, Aria for Flute Quartet by composer Dr. Greg Steinke.  The Artist Concert featured pianist Dr. Inah Choi.  Many alumni members performed in the handbell choir directed by Jill Hobby and in the flute ensemble directed by Ann Droste.

A new alumni chapter, Eta Lambda, was installed in Atlanta, Georgia, in May of 2003.  Three collegiate chapters were also reactivated in 2003:  Omicron Theta of Columbia College (Columbia, SC), Gamma Iota of Molloy College (Rockville Centre, NY), and Omicron Delta of Southeastern Louisiana University (Hammond, LA).

Delta Omicron has a new website at www.delta-omicron.org.  In 2004 the format of the website will be updated to include more alumni news.  In addition, The Whistle will be published online during 2004 and 2005.  Look on the website for applications and information about Foundation Grants and Fraternity Summer Scholarships available to members.  Also, welcome our new Webmaster, Becky Thompson!

We encourage you to keep the Executive Secretary, Julie Hensley, aware of any address changes that you may have.  As an alumni member, we ask your continued support in several ways:  volunteer your time to serve as a State Alumni Chair, think about organizing an alumni gathering in your area, begin an Alumni Club or help to reactivate an Alumni Chapter.  You can also provide information about potential collegiate chapters at your local colleges and universities.  Other ways you can support your fraternity are to provide financial support through donations to the Executive Office, Educational Journal, Conference Fund, Technology Fund, or Endowment Fund.  Consider becoming a life member if you have not already done so.  Faithful support by our alumni members is essential to the continued strength of our fraternity.

We look forward to hearing about you and your musical endeavors.  Please share your accomplishments for our next issue by contacting Lani Yearicks, Julie Hensley, or myself.

Best wishes in Delta Omicron,
Dr. Jonny H. Ramsey
International President
